This story of love and devotion tells of a woman named Ruth and her eventual marriage to a wealthy man named Boaz. Together they bear a son, Obed, who becomes the grandfather of David and the ancestor of Jesus. Obedience brings Ruth into the privileged lineage of Christ. The sovereignty of our great God is clearly seen in the story of Ruth. He guides our every step of the way to fulfill His plans. We have assurance that God has a plan for each of us. Ruth’s example of trusting in God to provide, is one for us to follow and learn from.
The incredible theme of redemption is all throughout the Bible and incredibly prevalent here. Just as He redeems Ruth, God redeems us through the person of Jesus Christ, by way of His death and bodily resurrection.
